What is VoIP
Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP) is a relatively recent technology, which in simple terms allows voice calls to be made over the Internet. The calls are converted into data packets and sent via the Internet to a device such as; a phone, router or server. VoIP is popular because it allows people to make calls between computers or other VoIP handsets free of charge. It also integrates more readily with modern systems and allows for increased options of usability; for example routing calls or answer phone to email conversion.
Benefit to business
The main benefit to business of choosing a VoIP system is the lower cost of calls; this is due to the data being sent as network traffic across a LAN (Local Area Network) or the Internet. Calls within an organisation are free to other VoIP Phones. Non geographic numbers can help increase the professionalism of your business. These are also transferrable and move if and when the business does. Various systems and technologies can be linked to the telephony system, which can expand to meet the majority of users needs.
Is VoIP Secure
VoIP is largely used on internal LAN networks or over the Internet, this means that the packets of data being sent are vulnerable to attack by outsiders. SRTP (Secure Real-Time Transfer Protocol) is used by UKVoIPNet™ to encrypt all calls made via our network. This encrypts the call and makes breaking into the transmission difficult.
